Pure Good Herbal Magic: No Intoxicants

The Pure Path of the Good

Herbal Magic: Vegan, Satvic, and Intoxicant Free!

In the old stories, witches were said to fly through the night on enchanted ointments, whispering spells over bubbling cauldrons. Yet many of these legends arose from misunderstanding — and sometimes from practices that led away from the light rather than into it. In stories we hear about witches dancing with the ‘Devil’ and flying using intoxicating ointments, but is this real witchcraft, which is the craft of the wise/ witty witch of daily practical magic to improve one’s life, home and prosperity?

True witchcraft, the path of the healer and the wise one, is not a descent into darkness or intoxication. It is the art of clarity, compassion, and communion with the living spirit of nature.

The Power Within, Not in the Potion

Real magic does not come from substances that cloud the mind. It awakens from within, through calmness, meditation, and pure intention. The good witch knows that alcohol, narcotics, and hallucinogens belong to the realm of tamas — the energy of heaviness, confusion, and ignorance.

The Three Energies and the Spiritual Vegan Path

In the language of ancient wisdom, every action and substance carries one of three energies — tamas, rajas, or sattva.

Tamas brings dullness, confusion, violence, and unconsciousness — seen in intoxicants, cruelty, and harm.

Rajas stirs restlessness, passion, and excess — seen in greed, indulgence, and attachment.

Sattva radiates purity, peace, and wisdom — found in compassion, simplicity, and truth.

To live as a Vegan Witch is to choose sattva every day — to live without exploitation or abuse of animals, humans, or the Earth.
We avoid not only harmful words, thoughts, intentions, actions, or energies, but also toxic plants and drugs, and of course, the use of animal products, testing, or services that cause suffering or exploitation to non human animals. This aligns with the Wiccan Rede ‘An It Harm None Do What Ye Will’ which means free will to create your own life and do whatever you wish as long as you do not harm others (human or non human animal), or yourself - magically or otherwise. (Kindly note that ‘harm’ does not include unintentional accidental harm or self defense).

Our magic and lifestyle are both ethical and harm-free — drawn from the living spirit of nature in its purest form.
Through kindness, mindfulness, and plant-based Vegan living, we align ourselves with the highest vibration of all: good in action.

Herbs for Healing, Not Escape

Herbs are sacred teachers, not tools for escape. Every plant carries its own vibration — rosemary for remembrance, sage for cleansing, lavender for peace. We use them with gratitude, in moderation, never to overpower or intoxicate, but to balance and restore.

The darker herbs of old — Datura, Henbane, Belladonna — known as “Devil’s Apples” or “flying plants,” once lured seekers with promises of visions. But these are illusions born of poison. They open the mind not to divine truth, but to confusion and delusion. The wise witch does not drink from such cups.

The Forbidden Fruit Revisited

Although we do not adhere to any book religions or scriptures as enlightened spiritual Wiccans, it is worth considering that perhaps the Biblical “forbidden fruit” was not an apple of love or lust at all. Even if symbolic, the story might merely be a warning against intoxication and illusion, namely, ‘The Devil’s Apple’, a toxic nightshade herb, which can bring hallucinations, unconsciousness, and even death by poisoning.

When Adam and Eve “ate” of it in this symbolic account, their eyes opened not to enlightenment but to duality and fear (as drugs can open one up to negative or evil forces or unwanted energies as well as hallucinations) — owing to the loss of clarity, the fall from conscious unity.  This is a symbol of a mind clouded by illusion and the third eye of clear seeing being blocked by imaginary and false visions that have no basis in reality. In that sense the story is symbolically a warning about the danger of seeking false knowledge through unconsciousness, and with that, being open to ‘knowing’ good and evil both (open to good and evil spirits or ideas), instead of awareness that one must choose good over evil and be conscious or aware of one’s behaviour in order to align with positive energy.

The Sattvic Witch’s Path

A good witch lives by purity, simplicity, and awareness so that we do not abuse ourselves or others. Drug abuse, harmful lifestyles, abuse of own body, mind or spirit, and abuse or exploitation of others has no place in the sacred path of good.

We draw power not from outside substances but from the still light of the soul. Our spells are kind actions, our potions are mindfulness, and our true flying comes from joy and love.

We vow to keep our minds clear and our energy pure — to use nature’s gifts wisely, never harmfully. We remember that magic is not manipulation, but harmony. Not escape, but awakening. No untruth or illusions, but truth.

The truest magic is calm, conscious, and compassionate to self and others in balance.

✨ Top Tips for the Spiritual Vegan Practitioner of Good Magic

For those who wish to walk the path of light in modern and positive witchcraft, here are a few simple yet powerful principles to live by:

Follow the Wiccan Rede: Harm None.
Let your intentions, words, and actions spring from kindness. Do not harm anyone — human or non-human — through thought, spell, or deed. The only exceptions are genuine self-defence or accidental harm that was never intended.

Be Vegan for All Beings.
Honor the sacred right to life and freedom for every sentient being. Refuse to exploit, consume, or use animals or their products for food, clothing, magic, testing, or profit. Compassion is the highest form of magic.

Avoid Intoxicants and Tamasic Substances.
Keep your mind clear and your soul luminous. Avoid alcohol, narcotics, hallucinogens, and toxic plants that induce unconsciousness or false visions. True awakening comes through calmness and meditation, not chemical illusion.

Practice Positive Magic and Abundance Consciousness.
Use your energy and intentions to create love, joy, healing, and prosperity for yourself and others. Remember that what you send out returns multiplied — so radiate only blessings.

Restore the Good Name of Magic.
Teach by example that witchcraft is not evil — it is the art of harmony with nature. Speak truthfully and kindly about your path to dissolve fear, superstition, and misunderstanding.

Embrace Your Power Without Fear or Shame.
Your craft is a divine gift. Use it openly, wisely, and humbly. Show others through your life that each of us is a co-creator of reality, capable of transforming the world with positive thought, ethical living, and loving intent.

Live in Balance with Nature.
Grow plants, bless the Earth, recycle, conserve, and honour the elements. The Earth is your altar — treat it with reverence and care. Use Earth friendly products and respect nature. Nature is our church or temple.

Meditate Daily and Keep the Mind Still.
The clearest visions come not from potions but from silence. Through daily meditation, you strengthen your inner magic and see truth without distortion.

Avoid Negative Relationships.
Protect your energy and heart. Be aware of abuse, manipulation, or harm in relationships, and choose to surround yourself only with people who uplift, inspire, and respect you. Learn to be at peace in your own company. Do not seek companionship out of loneliness or fear, nor settle for empty or harmful connections of multiple partners or co-dependence. Instead, use your time and love to grow in wisdom, self-respect, and higher consciousness.

A Closing Blessing
May your path be clear, your heart compassionate, and your magic ever guided by truth.
Walk gently upon the Earth, live kindly with all beings, and let your light show that good witches — pure, peaceful, and powerful — are real, and they walk among us.

Blessed Be well!
